I think there is no limit of 50 validators. only 50 validator are choosen for block validation.

Needed new proposal to upgrade from 50 to…+++

There is a limit of choosen validators to propose blocks the limit is top 50.

We can have 100 validators but only highest 50 will be the ones participating other 50 will remain inactive until they overcome another in terms of voting power (overall fx delegated)
